Happy New Year

Dear friends,

I know I have been off the blogging scene of late, thanks to some travel and visiting relatives and what not... But on the last day of the wonderful year that got me even closer to my new passion of quilling, I wish all my readers a very happy new year and in the coming days I will be posting lots of stuff that I have been doing behind the scenes, and hopefully will do a lot more in the coming year.

Happy New Year folks.... hope this year is a lot more peaceful, less stressful and more fun for each and everyone in this world

A nameplate

Yeah finally I made a nameplate with my daughter's name on it... Simply loved the whole process... quilling is so engrossing and I simply love it... cant get enough of it...
This is a sneek peek into the nameplate... I started off by doing the letters and then did some beehive quilling inside the letters. I thought I will leave it at that but then remembered that you could make your own paper frame... thanks to Inna's idea here... So after some wrestling with the paper, I managed to get it somewhat right, it was my first attempt, quite ok. Then again I thought I will leave it like that but no... I wanted more quilling to be done.. so when I asked my 2.5 yr old.. shall we make some flowers, she was even more ecstatic because she loves to accompany me on my quilling sessions. I give her a strip and a pencil and she pretends to quill...:) So we began making the flowers... some Malaysian flowers, some normal tear drop arranged flowers (do they have a name, pls let me know) and then some leaves and branches... it was getting all the more better looking than before... But I had to stop somewhere so I did finally... But again when I look at it, I feel I could have added some more.. maybe in the next typography + frame I will do it hehe... Here are some pictures.
This picture is before I added the flowers...

Hope you like it

Another Thank You Card

Yes, another thank you card from me this time but with a bit of quilling unlike my previous one which had only fan fold (origami). I love making quilled fringe flowers and so I decided to use these flowers for my thank you card which i had planned to submit for World Card Making Day Contest hosted by Lulupu.com blog as my second entry. For this card, I made use of the 10mm quilling strips to make the fringed flowers, stuck them on top of a white dots on pink pattern paper from the especially for you collection. Just to add a dash of colour to the colourful flowers :P I also stuck a strip of PP on one corner. Handwritten sentiment on the bottom right corner on a diecut that came along with the pack of PPs :)

Thank You Card - World Card Making Day

Here is a Thank You Card from me keeping in mind World Card Making Day Contest hosted by Lulupu.com blog. It is a very simple card... not sure if this is a CAS card. I just used white card stock, put up strips of Mint Floral washi tape on it. Affixed a couple of fan fold flowers ( really difficult to make them stay!!),added the hand written sentiment and then some glitter!!! Let me know what you think.

Here are the pictures (sometimes I go on and on clicking pictures and editing all of them, and I want to upload all of them, silly me!)

Birthday Card - World Card Making Day Contest by Lulupu.com

Heya fellow bloggers, sorry for the looong absence from the blogging scene again (seems like I have been putting up this disappearing act quite too often now), Travel and sick child are the reasons behind my absence. But I am back with a few cards, thanks to the lovely challenge organised by Lulupu.com in connection with the World Card Making Day. They have put up 3 themes and it is nice to know that we can backlink some old posts which fit the theme. So I have linked up my quilled birthday card that I had made for Lulu's quilling lab's 2nd anniversary celebrations.

This is my second entry to the contest for the same theme - Birthday. Here it is:

I have made use of some nice pattern papers - wanted to make use of them as soon as I heard about the contest. They were very pretty to look at... So on a grey card stock, I layered this pattern paper called Especially for you and affixed some embellishments like butterfly diecut, the tattered teddy die cut that I got along with the PP. I just made it to look as if the teddy was holding some balloons - i quilled them :) and then I just attached a strip of Pink Butterfly washi tape and some glitter here and there hehehe. Sentiment as usual is hand written on one of the diecuts I got along with the PP and I also affixed a couple of blue foam hearts. I stuck the butterfly and teddy with double sided foam tape for the 3D effect

I also made this card keeping in mind Sindhu Jay (whose blog Trapped in Craft is celebrating its 1st anniversary and she is celebrating her first wedding anniversary this month) who is hosting a challenge each week of this month to commemorate the above events. This week the theme was ABC - multiply by 3 so I went along with Tejal with the letter B - bling, blue, butterfly, there is also the balloon element as seen in teddy's hand as well as on the PP. So I hope I can play along this challenge Sindhu!! Wishing you a very happy anniversary, may the love between the two of you grow manifold in the years to come :)

A note to Lulupu - Sorry I am not able to link up your products on my post, I dont know how to plus I am running short of time :( Hope its ok!

Before I link this card to all the challenges, here are some more shots of the card :)

Love - yeah I made this one too

I am not a very romantic type of girl and also not the mushy cushy love kind... is that all needed to be a girl? Naa, am not bothered.. but anyway I brought myself to make this card - Love theme for Lulupu's World Card Making Day contest. I wanted to make a quilled heart and fill it with hearts (some inspiration from Lin's blog with pink, white, and red quilling strips.

And then for the sentiment, I used foam letters and also added in some foam heart stickers. Finished it up with some organza ribbon and a hand written "for u" sentiment on the corner as well. For the layers, I used white card stock and on top of it I stuck some cream coloured card stock. I tried to make some faux stiching effect on the words "love" with red glitter pen.

Some more pictures for you...

Mini 3" by 3" Note card

I love these tiny little cards which I came to know are called as Note cards and measure 3" by 3".. wouldn't they look cute? Such note cards are the ideal cards for a little thank you along with a gift, ain't it?
So as part of the challenge for this month set by Catchy Challenges, mini 3" by 3" note cards along with envelope have to be submitted. So here is what I made - ideas inspired by:
Swirls from this tutorial by Susan's quilling. Although the swirls haven't come out so well, I think they are not bad for a first try, right? I made the flower using this technique described by Azlina of Lin's Handmade Greetings Card - you can view the video here (I have really fallen in love with quilling with the comb technique!!).
And I made the envelope with the help of this tutorial video, really very easy and helpful!

I just used some card stock, textured paper, quilling paper and flower punch for the flowers on the envelope. The sentiment is on the inside of the card.
Here are the pictures... enjoy.

Quilled Birthday card

Hello there my fellow bloggers and crafters, am finally back in action. Oh how I missed crafting for the past 2 weeks, but since we were on a holiday, I just had to forget it for a while. I am back with this card I made for Lulu's quilling lab's second anniversary. Lulu is a PhD student writing her thesis and doing some awesome quilling at the same time. You can have a look at her blog here. I initially wanted to do something like a cake with candles (fully quilled) since the theme was birthday card with some quilling. But I ended up making a card with a teddy and some balloons and a cake and candles with the sentiment.

Around the time I finished up this card, some other challenges with similar themes also came up and hence I am linking up to them as well :)

Here are the pictures of the card and Happy Birthday Lulu aka Paper and QUill (FB page).

I forgot to mention earlier, I used inspiration from Lin's post for making the teddy bear.

Hope you guys like it..

Timepass - Bookmarks

I started reading this book, titled "Inspector Singh Investigates - A Curious Indian Cadaver" by Shamini Flint. Not very appealing to me but I had to read it (for various reasons) and kept missing a bookmark, I normally don't fold the corner of the book's page to mark my page and hence I needed a bookmark so that I can remember the page where I last left off... well, that is the function of a bookmark :P

Anyway, I was going through the internet for some inspiration and decided to use flowers for the bookmarks that I was going to make. One is my own pattern and the second one is from Lin's Handmade Greetings card. Lin has been one of my first inspirations and she does a wonderful job at quilling and card making... You can check out the bookmark tutorial here.

Basically I just cut the cardstock to the desired size, stuck some washi tape and added the quilled embellishments on top and lo! work is done.. isn't it easy?

Have fun!

Pink, pretty pink

Ah after that plain manly card, it feels good to see some pink, hehe... I came across a card for a baby shower in which the baby's feet were quilled and those were the most beautiful things I ever saw and I wanted to make something like that one since then. There were some challenges coming up and one of them had the Babies theme, oh I was soo happy.. This is the card.

There are 4 "boxes" and each one has something on it, the top left has a rubber ducky and a rattle, the top right has the baby feet, bottom left has a couple of pink felt hearts and a quilled flower. I have written the sentiment on the bottom right corner and the bottom as well. Here are the close up snaps for you to see...

Hope you like them,I used washi tape to make the boxes prominent. Sentiments are hand written..

Am adding one more picture of the baby's feet here...

A plain Man card

Really, manly/boyish cards are not my forte.. that is what I found out after I tried to make one... Boo hoo.. it was simply too plain! I began by doing something related to sports and coffee but I simply stopped at that... This is how it turned out. Please note I do not own any fancy stamps or inks or anything of that sort... just some paper pads, quilling paper. yeah... yet to invest in some arty stuff... I wanted to try out a swinging card so I made it and just incorporated the quilled embellishments such as a rugby ball, a basket ball and a coffee mug with piping hot coffee. Although I dont own a paper guillotine, I cut the swinging card with my craft knife and ruler, it did not come out so well but a good try I thought. Here are the pictures...

A simple card

For a long time I have been wanting to make a simple greeting card, with just a few elements on the front. While conceptualising this card, I came across the CAS challenge for this month - usage of 3 colours in the card. Ok, it fits my idea. I just need to use the 3 colours to fit my theme. I wanted to put a flower and some colour/lines on the card and lo, this theme suited my idea.

My card is here.
